No tills but lots of cameras. This is the supermarket of the future

Pingo Doce’s new shop in Carcavelos looks like an ordinary convenience store. It has a range of products on the shelves, cabinets of ready-made food and an area with several kinds of fruit. On one side there is even a bakery. Only a closer look reveals that this shop is far from normal. Where are the tills?

That’s right. At the new Pingo Doce, set up on the Nova SBE university campus and opened this Thursday, there are no tills. It is an innovative shop concept now arriving in Portugal. If you visit this convenience store, which is open to the general public, you might as well leave your change at home. Coins and notes can come in here. They just never stay.
